Mother’s Rugby gained the second commitment of what is expected to be another amazing recruiting class.
Mother’s Rugby Alumni are excited to welcome James Hughes to Fredericksburg, VA.
James started playing rugby when he was eight years old and other than his middle school years (Alexandria Rugby) has played continuously with Fort Hunt in Alexandria Virginia. He will be joining teammates Benn Mellinger and Daniel Trump at UMW. Fort Hunt has been ranked in the top 5 nationally for years and we are always excited to get a player with the training they offer at this top club.
While James is a natural prop, and the most comfortable there, he can also play lock or hooker. His strengths are in the set pieces and rucking and mauling.
He has been selected twice to play on the Rugby Virginia High School select sides (2016 and 2017), playing at both the JV and Varsity levels. He was asked to join the Rhinos Rugby Academy (California) side at the North West RCTs in Boise Idaho (2018) after filling in for one of their props at the National Championships in Kansas City MO (2018).
Besides rugby, James has lettered in both American Football and Wrestling and holds an Advanced Open Water SCUBA diving certification.
We look forward to seeing James on campus this August.
