Former UMW head coach Min Sae Chae has accepted a promotion to the Director of Rugby at the St. James in Springfield, VA where he will be building out educational opportunities for coaches and training programs for players – we certainly wish him the best of luck and he is going to be helping the school with a transition plan.

The UMW job is considered one of the best collegiate rugby coaching positions. A national championship caliber team, returning the majority of starters & key reserves, one of the most active and strong alumni bases in college rugby, & excellent corporate partners.

UMW has a fantastic group of volunteer assistant coaches in place, that have been with the program for several years while it has been housed inside of varsity sports. The dedicated rugby field is located in a prime spot in the heart of Fredericksburg, the players are eager already to take the field this coming spring and the alumni and parent support is better than ever. We have excellent varsity level strength and conditioning, amazing athletic trainers and a world-class orthopedic team that supports the students. Finally, there is going to be an influx of coaching talent and rugby experience in our area with the build out of DC MLR and it is an exciting time to be associated with rugby right here in our backyard.

From the Director of Rugby:

If there are candidates interested in applying for the coaching job we will post the details asap – we have already heard from an excellent mix of national level and international coaches and we want everyone to be part of our team. The search will be run by the school and we cannot comment or respond to inquiries about any jobs that report to a state school – our apologies if we cannot respond to the requests we are getting already.

If you are interested in learning more about UMW as a student please message us here or email tbrown7@umw.edu We are full steam ahead getting ready for some huge challenge matches in the spring (we have Army Feb 23rd to start!) as well as building our fall 2019 recruiting class that is shaping up to be a big one.

Best of luck Coach Min and we know you will do well!

The Mother’s Rugby Foundation would like to thank Min for his excellent on field results, we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
